"White Christmas" Inspired Cupcakes

It's DAY TWO and we are talking about our favorite Christmas movies! We've created a craft or recipe to go along with the movies so grab your popcorn and enjoy!

Welcome to the third annual 12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop!

Stop by every day from December first through the twelfth for new ideas you can use to make your season brighter!

Meet Your Hosts

They have all been busy as Elves creating, decorating, cooking and crafting tons of new ideas for you to try this holiday season!

There are two classic movies that we enjoy watching every year, both by Irving Berlin,  "Holiday Inn" and "White Christmas" so it's hard to pick an absolute favorite.  Both are FILLED with amazing musical and dance numbers.  The costumes are over the top and just, plain fun to watch. I tried to think which movie had a favorite scene and I immediately thought of the two numbers shown below.
Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen did a number called "Sisters". The costumes and the music were just stunning. BUT, the best part comes when the characters have not shown up as planned for their number.  Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby decide to step in and do the number themselves.

Apparently this scene was NOT in the original script. The two actors were simply having fun and the director decided it had to become part of the movie.
Here are clips of both scenes:

So in honor of this movie and my favorite scene, I created blue, 'feather' Sisters cupcakes.

I used my favorite vanilla cupcake recipe from Cookies and Cups. It is SUCH a good recipe - the cupcakes are not too dense and not too light.  They're not overly sweet which is best since the frosting is sweet enough! The cupcakes come out perfect every, single time.
I've used this recipe dozens of times and everyone always asks for the recipe.
I made fondant 'feathers' to go on top of the cupcakes. The fondant was purchased at Hobby Lobby and already the perfect turquoise color. Simply roll it out on a silicone mat dusted with confectioner's sugar and cut out your shapes. I bent these a bit and let them dry before adding to the cupcakes.
The frosting is THE BEST buttercream frosting I've ever had and it too is from Cookie and Cups.  It is NOT for the faint of heart and those counting calories haha! Two sticks of butter and half a cup of shortening, along with seven cups of confectioner's sugar make this a bit of heaven!
I used the "grass" tip to pipe the icing on for a 'feathery' look and added some edible pearls along with the fondant feather.
I was pleased that what I 'envisioned' in my mind translated pretty well to my cupcakes.
I'm looking forward to enjoying these movies again this year, I just don't think the cupcakes will be around long enough to enjoy WITH the movies!

    1. Isn't it the best? I love these old musicals. I'm TRYING to hold off from watching it as we traditionally watch both of these movies on Christmas Eve.

  6. BEAUTIFUL cupcakes! So nicely done and I bet they tasted great also. In reply to you question on my blog about the Christmas cards, I paint one a yr on flat canvas board and then I have prints made. The prints become everyones card for the yr. I take a scanned copy of the painting and set it up with Merry Christmas, Love Pam...on it.
