Vintage Bali Hai Dresser Makeover

It took me awhile to find a dresser to makeover for our bedroom but one Saturday we were at our local thrift store and the only tall dresser there . . . was this.  It was PERFECT.  It had a yellow finish but I loved the details and the faux bamboo trim. The price was just right . . . 40.00.  I knew it was a quality, old piece but I didn't realize just HOW good it was until I got home and started taking the drawers out.
This was inside one of the drawers.  So I did a little research and it appears that this is a Henry Link Bali Hai Faux Bamboo piece.  Henry Link was a furniture designer in the late 1950's - early 1960's.  At that time, he worked with the Dixie Furniture Company in Lexington, NC. The company still exists today as the Lexington Furniture Company but these pieces are no longer made.  Today this dresser goes for 200.00-500.00.  The other pieces (like the low dresser with mirror) go for upwards of 600.00!
I normally replace hardware but in this case, these totally went with the piece so all I did was use Rustoleum Chalked spray paint on them and then dry brushed them with white chalk paint.
The white dry brushing really brought out the details on the hardware.  I used two coats of AS White Chalk Paint on this piece.
A little distressing, some clear wax and a few touches of dark wax and I was pleased with the result.
It's the perfect piece for my shabby chic bedroom makeover and knowing that it's a quality piece of furniture makes it that much sweeter!

On any given week (depending on how busy I am!) I love to participate in Link Parties.  These gals put a lot of time and effort into hosting these parties so I always want to show my appreciation by directing my readers to these blogs.

  7. What a deal you got on your dresser, Lauren! I know that was a happy surprise for you. You did a fabulous job on painting it. Could you fly down here and paint some things that I want done?? I used to be so motivated to get projects going, but not so much any more.
    Happy weekend to you!
