Best Source for Area Rugs!

Let me start this post by saying I have not been compensated in any way for this review.  Since I'm so pleased with this rug, I wanted to let others know!  I purchased this 6'7" X 10' area rug from an online company called RugsUSA and I couldn't be more happy with both the product and the company.  I know that it's sometimes scary to purchase bigger ticket items online but after reading all of the 5-star reviews, I decided to take the plunge.

I knew I wanted one of these vintage-style, faded-look rugs but what I had seen in stores was crazy expensive, up into the 200-300.00 range -- way out of my price 'league'.  With the free shipping and 10% discount code they offer my total cost was 116.00.  All of their rugs come in multiple sizes from small, runner-type up to very large area rugs.

The color and pattern are exactly as described and seen on their site.  You could choose to purchase a pad to go underneath but I opted not to since this is in the bedroom.  I thinks it's quite thick and plush but if you were going to have this in a living or family room, you might want the pad, but again, I don't think it's necessary.

The edges are bound SO neatly - no frayed edges, strings, etc.  As with any rug, when unrolled, the edges rolled up slightly.  I taped them down with painter's tape for just a few hours and they laid completely flat.

The room really feels nice and cozy now!

Here are some of the great things about RugsUSA:
  • Site is very easy to navigate
  • Lots of detailed information about each rug
  • Buyer reviews
  • Ships FedEx free with lots of email communication from the time you place the order, to the time it ships, to the time it is delivered.
  • Comes securely wrapped in heavy-duty plastic with cardboard end protectors that keep edges from being damaged in transit
  • Always at least a 10% discount code on site
  • Returns seem fairly straight forward (you have 14 days from the date of your delivery to initiate a return)
  • LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of styles, colors and sizes to choose from
  • Most importantly - a high-quality rug for an extremely low cost!
Personally, I will not purchase a rug anywhere else again. In fact, I'm going to have to force myself to stay OFF of the site since there are WAY too many pretty rugs!!

DIY Custom Bed Skirt

I was having a hard time finding a bed skirt (does anyone call these 'dust ruffles' anymore? That's what we used to call them but it appears that is not so any longer lol) that I liked AND that wasn't CRAZY expensive.  I loved ones with fringe and pom pom detail but they were 75.00 - 125.00.  No thank you.  The other day I was rooting around my craft room and found this big, bunch of vintage fringe I had forgotten I had!

Perfect! I purchased the bed skirt at JCPenney (originally 55.00 but was 40% off).  I had already measured the fringe and knew I had JUST enough to make it around the three sides.  After measuring and trimming the bed skirt, I sewed on the fringe.

It really was an easy project, it just took some time to measure, cut and hem the bed skirt and then sew on the trim.  I think as it 'settles', it should hang nice and neat.

I've been looking for a 'peach' throw for my 'winter' bed and today while hubby and I were at the mall, we saw this one and he bought it for me! It matches the peach accents in the room perfectly!

With the flannel duvet cover, the throw and dark gray curtains, it's almost ready for colder days.  I'm expecting an area rug I purchased on Rugsusa.com tomorrow and will be posting my review of that soon.

Reclaimed Wood Rustic Thank You

One of our staff pastors was retiring and I was asked to make some type of thank you gift.  I found this quote on Pinterest and I really thought it was appropriate.
I dug around in my garage and found this big, old piece of wood in the rafters.  It measures about 24X15 and it was heavy, solid wood with lots of character.  I sanded it down and where there were odd 'nicks' or cuts, I emphasized those by sanding deep into those imperfections.
I applied a white wash of chalk paint and was surprised to see these vertical ridges pop out adding even more natural character to the piece.  The words were printed out and then with graphite paper on the backs of them, I traced over with pen.
It's a simple technique which then leaves the letters on the wood, ready to paint.  I used watered down, black acrylic paint and a fine tipped brush.
I decided to go back with my sander and remove some of the paint along the edges.
Simple process to create anything you want to say on any kind of wood!

Vacation and Two Winners!

I took a short break from the blog while we went on our annual trip to St. Simons Island, GA.  This year, our twin girls joined us -- that meant lots of laughs and craziness!
No pics of hubby this year -- he was sick in bed for at least half of the trip! But us ladies "soldiered on"!

I was the only one who got up several mornings to catch the sunrise.

We had quite a few days with very large waves which made for some amazing visits to the beach.

I was totally geeked out one day to find a pelican on the pier so close you could almost touch him! I've never seen one that close.  Unfortunately all I had was my phone so the pictures aren't that great.  Then he was joined by some seagulls -- it was beautiful!
Do you know what these are?  They're called Purple Beautyberry - aren't they stunning!? They were hanging on these bushes like clusters of grapes.  On day five hubby was well enough to join us on a 10 mile bike ride on Jekyll Island. We came upon these and my daughter googled to see what they were.  SUPPOSEDLY they are edible but we didn't want to take a chance!
So now I'm back and trying to get caught up on work, laundry and getting used to dreary, rainy, cold Chicago!  But that also means it's time to announce the two winners of the Rust-Oleum Chalked paint.
The first winner is Cecelia from My Thrift Store Addiction.
The second winner is Kathleen Rupp from Everything Karupped!
Congratulations ladies!
