Cupboard Door Valentine Decor

Here is a great, simple way to add holiday decorations to your kitchen cupboards, doors, etc.  You'll need:

Ribbon
Command hooks
Pencil, Ruler
Hot glue, Scissors
Decoration to hang

Mark where hook will go with pencil on the INSIDE of the cupboard door.  Apply the command strip in between the marked area.  Remove paper and apply the hook UPSIDE DOWN . . . which I didn't do the first time haha!

Another important note:  Use tape to attached the hook to make sure it's not going to hit the door frame which means you can't close the cupboard door!!

Decide how long your ribbon needs to be (depends on how far down you want your decorations to hang) and cut all the same length.  Decide where the hole for attaching to the hook needs to be.  Cut one slit in a piece of the ribbon.  Lay that piece on top of the other pieces and with a pen or pencil, mark where the slit needs to go.  Cut all slits.

The slit slips over the hook and then the ribbon hangs over the cupboard, out onto the front.

I used hot glue to attach the hearts to the ribbon.

With the hooks on all of the cupboards, I'll be able to change out the decorations for other holidays.  It's such a nice, pop of color don't you think?

When I redid my kitchen a few years ago, I left the doors off of the cupboards above the refrigerator.  You know, the ones NO ONE can reach so you never use them?  I love decorating this little "nook" year round and especially for the holidays.  Here I have my vintage bride Barbie, a vintage candy box and a few other 'trinkets'.

A milk glass bowl holds vintage heart molds and cookie cutters with this little tray and a few other little trinkets.

My message center is getting in the Valentine spirit as well!
Can you tell I LOVE Valentine's Day decorations!?

Do you decorate for Valentine's Day?  My decorations go up as soon as the Christmas ones come down!  I love the bright, cheery reds and pinks and lights in an otherwise quite dreary time of year!

  1. I love your beautiful Barbie and the idea to leave the doors off those high cabinets! I bought some old Valentines from Etsy so I'm going to try to put together a vignette. Can I borrow Barbie? heeheehee! Hugs!

  2. Now aren't you clever with the hook inside the cabinet??!! The hearts really do add such a pop of color. What a great idea to leave the doors off above the fridge. Your little vintage vignette is so sweet, and so is your message center. I love red, Lauren, and am loving all your decor.

  4. Your Valentine decor are adorable! I'm embarrassed to admit that my Christmas decorations are still up! I've been battling a nasty cold for the last 2 weeks so I haven't had the energy to take the tree, etc. down. Finally doing it this weekend!

  5. I used to do some decorating for Valentine's Day but haven't for a very long time. Apartment life means there simply isn't enough space to store extra decorations beyond some things we use at Christmas time. Love your idea of the hooks on the kitchen cupboards but I can just imagine what the Resident Chef would have to say about me 'cluttering up his kitchen'.

  6. Pretty, pretty, Pretty! I enjoyed seeing the colors of your kitchen, well at least a little peek. ;}
    I have SO enjoyed my Christmas decorations this year that they are still up! January is such a dull and drab month that I tend to extend my enjoyment of Christmas decorations.
    This year I went all out with decorating putting up 5 trees, not all five are large though. :}
    Each tree has a theme, our tree in the master bedroom is decorated in shabby chic/romantic. One tree in the kitchen is decorated with all baking ornaments, another tree was in honor of my mother-in-law Betty decorated with nutkrackers, she loved them, another tree is a snowman tree and then of course we have our traditional tree. With all that said, I'm loving my decorations but will likely take them down next weekend.
    Yikes! I was a little winded there. :}
    How's our little Hudson doing? Hopefully he's getting better with his training and growing up. 🐾
    It's always a joy visiting with you.

    Bless you ♡

  10. Those are awfully cute, Lauren. I do that with Christmas balls (and shattered two this time taking them down. Next year I might switch to plastic!) but never hearts. I love the idea!

  11. I like your upside down command hook idea! At Christmas I hung wreaths on my kitchen cupboard doors with ribbons thumbtacked to the inside of the door....not easy to do! I love your sparkly hearts! I don't do much decorating for Valentines Day.....maybe a wreath on the front door.

  12. Thanks so much for stopping by!! We also got 11 inches of snow in November with nothing in December...We did get a dusting over night, getting missed by that huge storm which stayed to the south of NEPA. But it did make my outdoor Winter decorations look so nice....
