I am still adding to my "vintage travel" themed guest room/study and scored this suitcase for $1.90. Two coats of gray chalk paint later it was looking better. I added a graphic of an old compass, distressed and waxed to finish it off outside.
Using Mod Podge I added some old music pages to the inside and gave the plastic insert several coats of black spray paint, putting the original mirror back in place.
Using a clear acrylic spray paint, I sealed the inside. To my pleasant surprise, the paint created an even more vintage look by darkening certain 'spots' of the pages!
Here it is filled and ready for guests who may have forgotten some 'essentials' and it can also be used by the ladies to sit and apply make up or do their hair.
That is really a great idea. I especially like the sheet music lining!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done Lauren! Love the total transformation, including the lining. :)

I found a vintage case recently as well and didn't know what to do with it. Very inspiring post!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I love it!
ReplyDeleteLove how that turned out - great job!
ReplyDeleteLove what you've done to the travel case, Lauren! When my son was a preteen, I decorated his room in a world traveler theme. We both loved how it turned out and the décor worked for him right up until he moved out on his own. And the really cool thing was, he took some of those decorations with him to use in his own home. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday. Hope to see you again this week.

ReplyDeleteWell....if this isn't the neatest thing ever. Love it!!! Thank you for visiting my beach wedding post. It was such a great day and you never saw such a happy couple. I love that first photo too with the laundry hanging on the porch. Too bad that bikini wasn't mine! LOL. Hope you are having a sweet Sunday. ~ Lynn

That is a really awesome idea. I've never thought of that--but having a kit like that could be a great part of showing hospitality to our guests. And I can't tell you how many time my sister has come to visit and has forgotten to bring a toothbrush! :P
