I found both of these wire baskets at my local thrift store (each for $1.00) and spray painted them. I purchased a few yards of chain at Home Depot and sprayed it to match and added some prisms I had salvaged from another project. The small 'chubby' jelly jars were each 60 cents and were a perfect fit in the red basket.
I love these four matching jars I found at GW! Not only are they the perfect size for this basket but they have matching lids so if I'm using real candles, the lids can lay to the side of the jars and be used to snuff out the candles when we're finished. They were $1.00 each.
I also added a prism to each of the center square openings for a little added "bling".
Total cost for these two outdoor 'chandeliers' was $7.20! My biggest dilemma right now is whether to keep them for myself or put them in my 'soon to be opened' Etsy Shop . . .
Very cute! Visting from Christina's Adventures! Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteOh that is super cute!! We spent the better half of the day going through Home Stores looking at lighting. The fixtures were all made for really tall ceilings and there wasn't nearly enough bulbs on any of them. Did you know we are going to be done with traditional light bulbs at the end of the year? None of the new bulbs will throw off as much light. I think we will all have to pull out the candles just to see. Our homes will be dark. Ha! Thanks for linking it to Home Sweet Home!

Hi :-)
ReplyDeleteI followed your link-up here from Coastal Charm's party.
I like the idea of your hanging baskets of lights.
years ago now, I too had picked up a bunch of those lidded nut gift jars from mission type stores. One Christmas I was hosting my side of the families get together. I had lit the candles in the jar, and placed them on top of tall bookcases, on top of the dining room cupboard and tall desk in there, a few down the length of the tables, on top of the kitchen cupboards, every third step up of the staircase in the front entry, etc. right before everybody was due to start arriving, every light in the house was turned off - it was a completely candle lit evening. And it was a success. how do I know - my then 15 year old nephew entered, looked around, and said "wow - COOL!" ;-p
Very cute! I love a bit of ambience in the garden. I have a real cute wire badket with hooks. I have one problem, my trees aren't big enough yet to hang things from them. Have to enjoy a few sitting lights for now.
ReplyDeletelove these and so glad to have found you....I'm following along now..yay!!...come on over and visit me...nice to meet you...Mariaelena
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about DIY is that you can use house materials and turn them into something fabulous! Take for instance these jar lights. When you look at them, they are just simple home and kitchen stuff. But with a little creativity, you can think of a hundred ways to make use of them. [Allison Shallenberger]
