I'm still copying off of my Pinterest Boards! This was my husband's Father's Day gift -- a photo holder for his office using old wood and metal files. I was inspired by Jane at Mamie Jane's and her Repurposed Metal File Picture Holder she made.
Mine was made using some reclaimed wood fencing I got for free when my boss tore down his fence.
My wonderful neighbor cut three pieces of the wood for me and I glued them together with wood glue. I used one of the metal files to smooth the edges but left them quite uneven to add to the rustic look.
Following Jane's suggestion, I made three pilot holes in the wood and then just hammered those files into the wood. The files were taken from my father-in-law's toolbox that my husband got when his dad passed away. I used a metal brush to clean them up a little but not too much as I wanted to keep their rustic charm.
For the magnets I punched out some decorative paper and glued it to round magnets. Then I added some old washers, nuts, etc. with E6000 glue.
I finally tried out Picmonkey for editing photos so I played around a bit with it on this photo.

How cute! Well, you know what I mean. It's manly and rugged and cool more so than cute. But I love the magnets made with washers and wingnuts. I'll have to try some copycatting of my own sometime with some of these ideas! Thanks. Found your post at Ivy and Elephants. Hope you'll stop over and see me at Quirky Vistas sometime.
